Why we proclaim what happened to us?
I John 1:1-4 says,
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life— and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. (NAS)
We tell others about what happens to us for others to find fellowship with God in Jesus and for them to have fellowship with us through faith. We must remain in Jesus to remain in fellowship with God and with one another. If we reject Jesus, then we forsake the assembling of ourselves together in Jesus as Hebrews 10:24-25 states.
Hebrews 10:24-25 says,
Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. (NAS)
What did the new converts practice once they were saved?
Acts 2:42 says,
They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
- Learning the scriptures
- Fellowship with one another
We are instructed to change our environment once we are saved?
I Corinthians 15:33 says,
Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
Change who we are associating with once we are saved. Go to wholesome places for entertainment and seek Godly fellowship with other Christians. If you were spending time in places that are ungodly, then change to a new place that is uplifting.
2 Corinthians 6:14-15 says,
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
You should not partner with unbelievers or seek companionship with unbelievers. You are a temple of the Holy spirit of God in you. Flee fornication. You are only to marry a Christian unless you are already married, then honor your commitment. Seek your spouses salvation.
What our old nature was and instruction as new Christians?
Ephesians 4:17-24 says,
So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. (NAS)
Ephesians points out essentials for every Christian:
Standing in the Spirit
We are instructed to no longer walk in the realm of flesh now that we are in the realm of the spirit in Christ. Our state of being is in Christ as a spiritual race.
Severed off the flesh in spiritual regeneration into Christ
Lay aside your old self in reference to your former life that was crucified with Christ.
Set your mind
Renewed in the spirit of your mind through setting your mind on the things that are spiritual.
Strengthen your spirit
We sink into Christ in spiritual regeneration. We put on Christ as a new creation in spirit. We are to strengthen our faith renewing our mind in the righteousness and truth of God.
