What is legalism?

What we will learn:

  • We will show that it is the cross that saves and we are a new creation as a spiritual race.
  • We will explain the spiritual race is true spiritual Israel not the false Old Testament type.
  • We will teach the liberty in the spirit.
  • We will teach about false teaching of legalism that tries to pervert the gospel of the cross.

Hebrews says that Christ was offered for sin once and for all.  Christ came to remove all consciousness of sin.  Christ is the only sacrifice for sin. (Hebrews 10)

Paul says that Christ sent me to preach Him crucified.  Paul says that Christ sent me to preach the Gospel lest the cross be made of no effect. (I Corinthians 3)  It is faith in the cross and resurrection of Jesus that we access grace for salvation as a gift of God not of works.

Philip asked Jesus.  What work must I perform to inherit eternal life?  Jesus says to trust in the one that sent Me and My finished work. (John 6)  When we come to Jesus we cease from our labor for salvation resting in His finished labor.  This is Sabbath Rest. (Hebrews 4)

We are a new creation of spirit as spirit race

We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.  Old things passed away and all things are new. (2 Corinthians 5)  It is not I who live, now it is Christ that live in Me.

The life I live I live unto God.  I am alive to God in Christ.  My life is hidden in God. (Romans 6)

Circumcision of uncircumcision is not what avails a new creation (Galatians 6)  We are partakers of His divine nature. (I Peter)  We are regenerate of the seed (sperma) of God.

We are literal children of God in the Literal Son of God.  Our old nature is crucified in His crucifixion cutting away of the flesh through circumcision of Spirit.  (Romans 6; Colossians 2:11)  We are raised with Him in the likeness of His resurrection to the newness of Life. (Romans 6)

This takes place in spiritual regeneration into the resurrected spiritual body (Spiritual Temple: Mark 2) in the spirit.  Our body has perished and we are His Body in Christ. (Many members of one Body: I Corinthians 12)  We receive the Spirit of God in us when our spirit identifies with His spirit in faith to receive spirit of adoption as children of God. (Romans 8)

We receive the mind of Christ. (Philippians 2)  God cuts out the heart of stone through the circumcision of heart through the spirit not the letter.  We are now spiritual Jews.  For a Jew is not a Jew on the outward, they are one inwardly.

The true Jew is the one born of the spirit in Christ through faith as God’s true chose people not the Old Testament type. (Romans 2:25)  Not all of Israel is Israel, only those that are of faith in Jesus. (Romans 9:8)

In Adam all are flesh, In Christ all that come to Him are a spiritual race. (Romans 5; I Corinthians 15)  Those that come to Christ are a new creation of spirit.  We are in His Body, with His mind, His Spirit in us and a new heart.  All things are made new.

Jesus has cleansed us of all sin and unrighteousness. (I John 1:9-10)  If we would sin, Jesus our advocate is in front of the throne saying continuously in Greek I paid for that sin. (I John 2:1)  He who is born of God does not continue to sin, since He is born of God. (I John 3)

As Christ was in this world, so are we now in Him. (I John)  Christ made us perfect. (Hebrews 12)  The Eternal Spirit was offered for our sanctification. (Hebrews 10)  Christ is our righteousness. (2 Corinthians 5)  You see it.  We are spirit and worship God in Spirit.

Jesus said that I go away to prepare a place for you.  In My Fathers house there are many mansions. (John 14:6)  Jesus said you kill this temple and I will raise it a temple of spirit. (Mark 2)

Where I am there you are also.  Jesus said that I will construct House of Me (Not Church). The gates of Hell will not prevail against it. (Matthew 26:18)  It is funny that the Catholics use this verse and it is talking about a spiritual inhabitation in Him in the realm of the spirit not a physical building with people going to it.

Protestants also in that mix.  God is spirit and those that worship Him, worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)  We worship God in spirit in the Son.

We are seated in Christ in the realm of the spirit.  Our citizenship is in the realm of the spirit.  When we put off this body, we will be in the presence of God until the resurrection.  Our bodies will meet our spirits in the sky in the glorification.

Hebrews 12 says, We are not come to the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.

The Called out ones into Christ the first born in the resurrection.  Those that follow the forerunner through faith are on Mount Zion, the city of the Living God.  The spiritual race of Just people made perfect in Jesus as the spiritual Israel, whose Father is the Lord God.

Everyone else is of their father the devil like Jesus told the unregenerate Jewish people in John 8:44.  You are of your father the devil.  Romans says that all of Israel will be saved.

He is keeping His Word.  All of spiritual Israel is saved, not the Jewish people that are a type of spiritual Israel under the Old Testament.  God is no respecter of person.

He said that if the Gentile would keep the Law, then would not their uncircumcision get counted as circumcision.  Why are you puffed in mind thinking you are the ones with the Law are superior?  Abraham was not circumcised when he was counted righteous through faith.

It is of faith not the Law.  Is God not the God of the Gentile and the Jew as one God?  Circumcision or uncircumcision avails not only the new creation.

What is freedom in Christ?

The scripture says that who the Son sets free is free indeed. (Romans 8)  Where sin abounds grace abounds much more. (Romans 6)  We are free from sin through putting the body of sin to death in the crucifixion of Christ.

Mortify the works of flesh for they are crucified.  The Law has power of a person as long as they live.  You are crucified and free to marry another Christ.

Christ raised you to the newness of life in the spirit as a spirit race.  What this means is that God changes our nature as explained earlier.  We no longer want the things of this world, flesh or evil one.

Not as a result of the Law saying that we cannot, rather the result of not wanting those things from a renewing of mind.  We are free.  We limit our liberty.

Why?  All things are lawful for me, not all things are expedient.  All things are lawful, I will not come under the power of any.

I am free.  The things of this world are not good for me to indulge.  I am free, I choose not to let things run uncontrolled in my life to not come under their power again.

The sin of this world can erode my faith to the point of rejecting the living God.  I would come under its power again.  Our liberty is not a license to live a life that is ungodly sinning.

Limit liberty with love

There are things that are a matter of conscience.  One was eating food for idols and the weaker one out of paganism was offended.  They are instructed not to offend the weaker one out of paganism through you eating.

We are to limit our liberty with love.  There are things that the scripture is silent on, religion in Christianity pushes their view on others.  The scripture is not specific on certain things as sin.

How can you tell if you are a legalist?

Here is one way to know if you are a legalist.  What about alcohol?  Keep in mind that there are Christians that come out of alcoholism and you should not drink around one out of temptation of relapse.

This is there struggle not yours and they should not push their conscience on you.  For one something is sin and not for another.  One will tell another not to drink for instance.

The scripture says that someone that gets intoxicated is not wise.  It never calls it a sin.  If someone wants to have one drink, then they are not sinning if it is not a sin of their conscious.

They should not get intoxicated.  If this upsets you, then you are a legalist.  Jesus was called names for having wine.

He created fermented wine.  You are a legalist.  It is a matter of personal conscience.

What are some things to note about legalism:

Romans says that there are none good.  No not one.  Jesus was called good teacher.

Jesus said why do you call Me good teacher there is only one good.  That is God.  Jesus wanting to see the response.

We cannot get eternal life as a good person.  There are none good.  If we could get there this way: What was the reason for the cross?  Right.

No flesh shall get saved through works of the Law.  Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

What about the cross and keeping commandments?

Galatians 3:1-5 says,

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?  Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.  He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Paul states that Christians are perfect in spirit now you are trying to stay perfected through works of the Law.  Who has cast a spell of witchcraft on you?  You are perfect in faith not the Law.

Paul continues: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Conclusion of Paul: I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Christ not psychology

Galatians 5 says that Christ crucified us from the passions, affections and lusts of this world.  Psychology is for the unregenerate person not the spirit regenerate that grow through faith.  Faith comes through hearing the word of scripture not psychology.  Lie of Satan and false teachers under his power luring people away from faith.

Christ not tradition

Colossians 2:8-23 says,

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.  Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?  Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

Christ is the body of the ceremonies, washing and holy days in the Old Testament.  You should abstain from traditions of men, worship of angels and in false humility.  You can separate yourself from Christ through your carnal or fleshly mind rejecting God looking to these things for salvation.  These are elements of this world system.  We are crucified to the world and the world to us.
